You are so cool?

之前有個camera佬，話去HKU拍野，考下D大學生英文，結果，佢好驚甘話，問十個有八個答錯！

問題係，「You are so cool!」點解？

請大家一齊答下這題目，睇下結果！

小時候有些女同學(13yrs)會說, "That guy in the class next door, he's so cool"
現在, 碰到朋友..
"hey, how are ya'? where you going?"
"oh, just gonna XXXXXX(blah blah blah)."
"cool, see ya' around."
像是變得像個助語詞..
cool...涼...酷...冷酷...其實cool到低是好還是不好..?

'cool' - according to collins cobuild advanced learner's english dictionary, if you say that a person or their behaviour is cool, you mean that they are
i) calm and unemotional, especially in a difficult situation.
ii) unfriendly or not enthusiastic.
iii) fashionable and attractive.

Thus it really depends on what the context is.

i can think of three definitions of this slang:

1) you're dispassionate!
2) that's excellent!
3) okay / alright / sure!

要視乎用在甚麼語句,但我個人認為多是口頭禪,是無意思的。正如收費電視台的足球評述員一樣,差不多每句也有「其實」,我的爸爸也常常因這兩字而「爆粗」。
喜歡讀你的blog,就好像我大學時一位教授的功課一樣,教授要上他課的學生在一個semester內交7份"log",大家都認為很簡單之際卻發現很難,教授要的"log"正正就是blog而不是一份主觀的客觀分析報告。

其實學生又不是真的答錯，不過當時導演expect的答案是：「你好型，你好正！」...偏偏這句在西片中非常common的意義，十個有八個沒有答出來，比怪奇怪。

It's a common expression among N American ethnic majority(in 50 yrs time). In Asia, especially Japs, the better word is "hot".

You are so cool! 一句應可有多個解釋,
1. 你好型!
2. 你好冷漠/冷酷!
3. 你懶型!
4. 你好鬼「型」!(反話)
小弟想,這句之意思應還有好多,要視乎情況/心情而定,但言則那「camera佬」說十個有八個都錯的話,真想知到那十個答案為何!
點解錯?點解冇錯?
奇怪!
如果那camera佬根本就是有心捉弄人(而說人錯)或是林生您杜撰出來的話 ...
小弟亦只好說句"You are so cool!"

根據大家的意見，也問過老師的專業意見，原來這句"You are so cool"，在不同場合有不同的解釋，原來是我英文見識不夠才以為只會是「你好型！」我正式向HKU學生道歉 ...sorry...
